We Survived Halloween!
Happy Monday Cute Friends!
I'm starting to get to know the ward a lot better, and my heart is full of love for all of them!
Everyone hyped up devils night and halloween so much and then it just felt like a normal day! On devils night we scheduled a lot of appointments so that we wouldn't have to be out in the dark. I even extended my first baptismal invitation to shelby and cedrick that day! They are a really sweet couple and it's always fun to teach them. When we got home sister timmerman was like wait sister butler I think that they got confused on the baptismal dates we asked them to pray about! Long story short, I thought I asked them to prepare and pray to know if they should be baptized on Nov 24 or Dec 1st and they thought we asked them to pray about Dec 1st or Dec 24th. So that was funny, but it will all work out!
Elder Ballard came here and had a conference with all the Lansing and Detroit missionaries! It was so awesome! He helped me understand why it's so important to strengthen the wards here. Everyone remember that member missionary work shouldn't be a burden, it should be a blessing!! Success is in the invitation!
While we were driving to the conference I was so surprised that all the other areas around us were so nice! I guess I can only go up from here! I truly am so grateful that my mission president and the Lord trust me to be in Flint and help these people.
On sunday these two guys we are teaching named Alberto and Spencer invited us to dinner at Alberto's brothers house. So we showed up and all I saw was a bunch of dudes standing around a huge bonfire. So we were a little nervous and decided we would just leave if it was uncomfy for us. When we went into the house there was loud Mexican music and tons of people, but they were super welcoming to us. We even ate a pig! Like a giant pig that they roasted for 7 hours! Everyone by the bonfire was drinking beer and some guy started to smoke pot. They were confused why we were there cause we aren't catholic and it was for Alberto's nephews first communion party! We had no idea! Then Alberto's nephew made a torch and was running around with it into the trees. I kind of really wanted to make a torch too, but I didn't. Alberto made a separate little fire for the four of us and we talked to him and Spencer about how they feel like our church has so many rules and they feel restricted. I was able to bear my testimony that obeying the commandments makes us happy and free. Also that heavenly father created them how they are for a reason , and that we don't want to change who they are, we just want to help them become better. I know that the gospel of jesus christ is meant to help us achieve celestial glory and nothing less than that. Spencer and alberto really opened up to us and they realized that we are just normal people too. Spencer even said that I'm in with the Mexicans now! Woohoo!
Today at walmart two guys came up to us while we were looking at popsockets. I think they were in their early 20's. They asked us if we worked there. I guess cause we wear name tags, but that seemed pretty fishy to me. Then they told us they were undercover cops and that they were looking for a charger for their phones. They showed us their badge things too. So then a real walmart employee tells them where to find them and they were like oh cool these two ladies will show us thanks! So we were like ummm okay. So we go down to aisle 10 and find it. The guys start telling us about this raid that's gonna happen at 4:30 and all this stuff. We told then how we're missionaries and we teach people about Jesus Christ. Then they keep asking questions like what we like to do and then they ended up getting our facebooks and we gave them our missionary card. They wanted to take us to lunch and we said no, so then they wanted to take us to dinner and we said no. In a polite way of course. I am just so confused cause we don't look like walmart workers and we also look like we are twelve. I don't think they understand that we are basically like nuns, but not really. Ewe so creepy.
Anyways, I love you all and have a great week! Don't forget to be a member missionary and just invite someone!
Love,
Sister Butler
